I SWEAR I'VE BEEN EDUCATED

The Prejudice Project

This project guided us through a self-mapping process to question our education and role as students within the large field of architecture. And then challenged us to approach our education through possible NEW courses, curriculums, tools, and methods counter to bias and prejudices.

PART 1: Narrative Arc Mapping

IMPOSED INFLUENCE

In part one I took on the role of mapping my education. As my background prior to Architecture school was quite diverse and often unrelated I decided to investigate the various influences on my creative process. I chose to map and network who, what, and where has influenced my approach to design, art, writing, and creativity. The final drawings are presented in different categories to show case highlighted specific important nodes that showed themselves through my reflective process. Each image is a spiral of text of my influences, this spiral symobilizes that the maps will keep on continuing, there is no limit on influence.

REFLECTION: Bridge to Part 2

Book Making as Tool

Prior to starting PART 2, we were tasked with creating a reflective text on PART 1. I decided to reflect on Taussigs writing on the sketchbooks of Burroughs, and created a 'zine' with sketches reflections and questions.

"How do the tools we use influence our work? Do the sizes, material etc. effect how we work? or how we reflect on work? Where can we makes changes to allow a deep questioning?"

IMPOSED

levibruce.com/imposed/

IMPOSED is a project that seeks to help creatives through a self-reflective project to engage with their external and internal influence. Through sketching, book-binding and note taking the creative can begin to see where and how their education, media consumption and other factors influence their work and in turn how that work can become self influential.

The project explores these ideas through the process of crafting a sketchbook by hand, filling out the pages through self direction and prompts, and finally dismantling the work in a process of reflection
